Safety
Instructions
And
Waiver of Liability and Assumption of Risk Agreement
Please read entirely these important instructions
on the safe loading and firing of our Muzzle Loading Artillery.
Always remember that this artillery is not a toy.
Improper loading and firing could result in serious injury or
death. Never shoot a projectile from the artillery. With the
proper load of powder and wadding, you should get the desired
theatrical sound and smoke for your reenactment or ceremony.
We suggest that you use an FFg black powder such
as Goex Pinnacle Powder. It is a clean burning powder that will
require less maintenance to the artillery bore. The black powder
should be pre-measured by the specification below. The pre-measured
amount should be wrapped in aluminum foil. The foil packet should
be carefully placed into the end of the barrel and gently pushed
all the way to the back with a non metal ramrod. Then gently
push the wadding with the ramrod against the foil packet. We
suggest cardboard disk that are just a slightly larger diameter
than the barrel. We suggest the cardboard disks are glued or
taped together in 3/4 inch thick sets. You should load up to,
but not more than, five such sets in the artillery, pushing
firmly with the ramrod after each set. The artillery is now
loaded and ready for firing. Before placing the primer in primer
hole the powder packet must be ruptured or punctured with a
brass rod or prick. Then place the 209 primer on the firing
mechanism. Before pulling the string to fire look around and
make sure that every one is standing behind the artillery a
safe distance and wearing ear protection. Pull the string and
enjoy the theatrics.
After firing the artillery, always swab the bore
with a damp cloth mop or allow 10 minutes between each shot.
This procedure is to reduce the risk of a burning cinder igniting
your next shot prematurely.
You should have the same respect for the artillery
as a firearm. Never stand in front of the barrel at any time.
Never smoke near the black powder or loaded artillery. Refrain
from alcoholic beverages while loading and firing the artillery.
Anyone younger than 21 years of age should be supervised by
an adult. The artillery is intended for use out of doors and
away aim the barrel away from buildings or objects when loading
and firing.
